Hello Neighbors, Community Members and Friends,
|
|
It’s September, which means one of my favorite events of the year is just around the corner: Inspi-HER’d, my field day for girls in fourth through eighth grade!
Those preteen and early teenage years can be challenging for the well-being of our girls. We created Inspi-HER’d to bring girls in this age group together with community leaders, advocates, and organizations who have their best interests at heart—to show them that their wellness matters. It’s essential to demonstrate that they are important and can play an active role not only in their personal lives but also in their communities.
I’m proud of the schedule of events my team has put together for this year’s Inspi-HER’d, and I can’t wait to meet all our participants.
Inspi-HER’d will be held on Saturday, September 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Naylor’s Run Park in Upper Darby.
To join in on the fun, register here.

Marching for Mass Transit
|
Last Friday, my friend and House colleague, Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, kicked off a 105-mile walk from Upper Darby to Harrisburg. I joined him for the kickoff rally at 69th Street Station and for the first leg of his long journey. The walk was organized to show lawmakers and our communities how essential mass transit is in our region and across the state. We’re still waiting for the Senate to get back to work so we can pass a budget bill that supports our transit, roads, and bridges. You can see my remarks from the kickoff rally below:

Rallying for You in Delco
|
This morning, I joined my fellow Delaware Countr Representatives Heather Boyd and Lianne Krueger, and state Senator Tim Kearney for a press conference at the Lansdowne Avenue light rail station (Lansdowne Ave. & Garrett Road, Drexel Hill). We spoke on the absolute necessity of SEPTA in our region, from the impacts on students in our school districts and parents trying to get to work, to seniors trying to access healthcare.
I am grateful for the group of lawmakers who came together today to show everyone that transit is as much about equity and justice as it is about mobility.

William Penn Back to School Kickoff!
|
Last week, I joined Rep. Joanna McClinton at her annual Back-to-School Resource Fair and celebration for the William Penn School District. It was an amazing event, and I was so energized by the students gearing up for the new academic year, as well as by the incredible support from community organizations that provided free vegetables, school supplies, and resources for the families who attended.
|
On Monday, I celebrated Labor Day by attending the Philadelphia Labor Day Parade, hosted by the Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO. The labor movement brought us the rights and protections that workers enjoy today—many of the same rights that have been under attack over the past year. I will always work to protect the rights of working people and am proud to have joined the thousands who attended Monday’s parade and rally.

A Successful Sickle Cell Blood Drive!
|
Yesterday, we had a great turnout for our sickle cell–focused blood drive at East Lansdowne Borough Hall! The Red Cross collected 23 pints of blood, which will all be tested to determine if they have the antigens necessary to help manage sickle cell disease.
Senator Tim Kearney and I hosted this blood drive in honor of National Sickle Cell Awareness Month, which runs throughout September. Sickle cell is a hereditary blood disorder that disproportionately affects Black Americans and causes ongoing pain, as well as an increased risk of serious medical issues like organ damage and stroke.
Thank you to everyone who came out to donate blood and support the fight against sickle cell disease!
