E-Blast: Another transit funding bill, Adagio health awards and upcoming events

Hello Neighbors, Community Members and Friends,

This week, my House colleagues and I voted to fund transit for the fifth time this year. We have provided the state Senate with yet another option in these well overdue negotiations. We continue to answer their demands with an additional $325 million for roads and bridges across PA, without raising a cent in taxes. H.B. 1788 also address every concern bought by the other chamber. We have presented the Senate with a multitude of options to fund mass transit from SEPTA, to PRT, and all the trains, buses, and trolleys in between.

In the Greater Philadelphia Area, SEPTA is just days away from making these service cuts final. These cuts will take away vital transportation for thousands of people and make existing traffic issues exponentially worse. Local businesses, schools, community organizations and more will all suffer tremendous losses from these cuts. We are ready to save SEPTA, the Governor is ready to save SEPTA, it's time for the state Senate, to get back to work and vote for some kind of transportation funding.

The state Senate did reconvene this week to send back an amended version of House Bill 257 which sadly fell well short of providing a comprehensive transit budget. The state Senate just doesn’t get it. SEPTA riders cannot afford to lose a day of service. Making SEPTA choose between necessary updates or continuing service as-is, is a lose-lose scenario that we in the House will not approve. If we’re going to fund mass transit systems like SEPTA, PRT, and the many others in the state, we’re going to do it right.

Lastly, Team Curry would like to thank our interns Jay and Rachel and our staffer Nathaniel for their service to my district office! Jay and Rachel's intern period has come to an end and our staffer Nathaniel is leaving us for a new journey! We want to thank them all for their help and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors!

Adagio Health Awards

All three co-founders of the PA Black Maternal Health Caucus received the great honor of being awarded Adagio Health's Legacies and Leadership Award. It was such a fun evening to be among some of the greatest leaders in Women's Health Equity such as BJ Leber, Dr. Margaret Larkins Pettigrew and of course, my colleagues state Reps. La'Tasha D. Mayes and Morgan Cephas who sadly couldn’t join us. This honor will go a long way in my heart and my mind as I continue to stay focused on legislative priorities and reforms around saving black moms from the horrible statistics that put them in harm's way when giving birth. This work is hard, but it is necessary! Thank you to the PABMHC and Adagio Health for making this great award a reality. I am truly honored! Now, let's continue to fight!
