E-Blast: Get the PA Senate Back to Work, a new PECO grant available, and event recaps

Hello Neighbors, Community Members and Friends,

It’s been nearly three weeks since the House of Representatives passed the 2025-2026 PA budget bill and sent it to the state Senate – and yet the Senate still hasn’t done anything with it. In fact, right after the Senate received it from the House, they left Harrisburg and aren’t scheduled to return until September.

I am furious.

The continued delay in passing our state budget is only going to lead to cuts in transit, schools, and state programs.

Delaware County can’t afford for this to happen.

In less than a month, SEPTA won’t have the funds to keep our buses and trains running. In less than a month, it will be harder for you to get to work, access everyday essentials, and connect with friends and family.

If funding doesn't come through, starting August 24th:

  • Bus routes 106, 120, and 126 will be eliminated
  • Bus routes 115, 124, and 125 will be shortened
  • Bus routes 103, 104, 108, 109, 110, 111, 112, 113, 114, 117, 118, and 123 will run less frequently.
  • Trolley routes 101 (D1), 102 (D2), and 11 (T4) will run less frequently
  • The Media/Wawa regional rail line, Paoli/Thorndale regional rail line, and Wilmington/Newark regional rail line will run less frequently

And if the funding loss continues, starting January 1, 2026:

  • Bus routes 103 and 118 will be eliminated
  • Trolley routes 101 (D1), 102 (D2), and 11 (T4), will stop service at 9 p.m.
  • The Paoli/Thorndale regional rail line and Wilmington/Newark regional rail line will be eliminated
  • The Media/Wawa regional rail line will stop service at 9 p.m.

And that doesn't even get into the fare hikes this funding crisis causes, too. You can see more detail on the Delaware County website.

My colleagues and I passed bills to fund SEPTA. We passed bills to protect your health care and to continue supporting our schools. All of it is waiting for the Senate to do their jobs.

Call state Senators Frank Farry at 215-638-1784, Tracy Pennycuick at 215-541-2388, and Joe Picozzi at 215-281-2539 and ask them to get back to work, or add your voice to our Action Center demanding they keep SEPTA running.

Let’s get them to do their job.

A Roundtable Discussion at Nissley Vineyards

This week I attended a tour of Nissley Vineyards in Lancaster with the Central PA House Delegation to learn more about PA’s winemaking industry and how we as legislators can help support it. Our state has more than 400 wineries with vineyards on over 14,000 acres of land! It was great to meet the Nissley family and discuss ways we can strengthen it.

Economic Development and City Revitalization

I also had the opportunity to join the House Policy Committee on a walking tour of downtown Reading, led by state Representative Manuel Guzman. Representative Guzman spoke about expanding economic opportunity throughout the state and highlighted different economic development initiatives undertaken in his district. It’s always great to learn more from my peers and I thank Representative Guzman for sharing his ideas and impacts with all of us!

Thank You for Joining Our Community Discussion!

Wow! Last Friday’s Community Discussion was an engaged, productive meeting of legislators and our communities. I couldn’t be prouder to represent a district that shows up to create positive change in our towns and neighborhoods. Every thought, concern, and idea you shared is an important piece in the work I do for you in Harrisburg.

Thank you for committing time to the hard work of bolstering our schools, families, and community.

Bringing The Ebony Canal to Philadelphia

On Tuesday, I attended another screening of The Ebony Canal, directed by the talented Emmai Alaquia, this time at the Penn Museum in Philadelphia. I can’t speak highly enough of this film, which addresses the crisis of Black maternal mortality in the U.S. head-on. The rate of maternal mortality is 3-4 times higher for Black moms than any other demographic, and I am so honored to continue speaking about it, working toward changing that statistic, and to help bring this important film to the Philly region.

Our Youth Legislative Council is Underway!

Our 2025 Youth Legislative Council is underway and recently had the chance to hear from Lt. Laina Stevens from the Upper Darby Police Department and Upper Darby Council President Hafiz Tunis about how to craft safe corridors legislation! My staff and I love offering this summer program to the teens in our area. It’s an honor to help our young people work toward careers in public service.
