Hello Neighbors, Community Members and Friends,

|
It’s almost PA MOMNIBUS Day in Harrisburg! This coming Monday, June 16 I’ll be active throughout the state Capitol with other members of the PA Black Maternal Health Caucus, advocating for the passage of our legislation that addresses the staggering rate of Black maternal mortality and morbidity in Pennsylvania.
If you’re wondering what a MOMNIBUS is, it’s a play on “omnibus” – a package of bills made of several smaller bills that tackle a single issue – and ours is for the Moms.
The MOMNIBUS package includes bills that will increase access to essential maternal healthcare, eliminate maternal health deserts, and provide critical resources and support systems for new and postpartum moms. These bills were crafted to confront the significant loss of Black mothers to birth-related issues, but they will promote the wellbeing of all moms and birthing people in Pennsylvania.
To join us at the Capitol on Monday, register here! Here’s what we have planned:
- 11 a.m. – a voting meeting of the House Health Committee where they are scheduled to consider two of the bills in our PA MOMNIBUS 2.0 – the PA Dads Matter Act and Expanding Maternal Blood Pressure Monitoring Coverage. You can also watch that meeting on YouTube.
- 1p.m. – a news conference and rally in the Capitol Rotunda to deliver an update on the legislation priorities of the PA MOMNIBUS 2.0 and build support for our continued focus on improving birthing outcomes. You’ll also be able to watch a livestream of the news conference here.
- 4 p.m. – a reception in the East Wing Rotunda of the Capitol to connect with legislators, community leaders, maternal health advocates, supporters and health providers to strengthen support for maternal health equity.

Fighting for a Living Wage in Delco
|
On Wednesday, I voted in support of H.B. 1549, the first bill that would raise the minimum wage in Pennsylvania in over a decade. I voted for it because I, like 80% of Americans, know that communities simply cannot thrive if they’re not sure how they’re going to pay the rent, get medical care, and keep food on the table. It’s unacceptable that it’s taken this long to get here.
But H.B. 1549 sets up wage increases that are based on the cost-of-living in your area, which means some counties will see a higher minimum wage than others. Here in Delco, we would see an increase to $12 an hour starting in 2026.
Let me be clear – this isn’t the finish line. While this bill is necessary and will have a positive impact on our communities, it is not the level of equity I’m fighting for. Ultimately, my goal is for all workers, regardless of their Zip code, to receive the same minimum wage. I remain committed to continuing the fight for the people of Delaware County and ensuring that every worker, every family, and every child has the same opportunity to thrive. I am hopeful that my peers in the PA Senate feel the same.

House Passes Bill Protecting Hospitals from Private Equity
|
On Tuesday, the House passed H.B. 1549, which would give the PA Attorney General’s Office greater oversight and better tools to ensure that when hospitals need to merge or are sold, their doors stay open, and patients don’t lose. The goal is to prevent another Crozer catastrophe from happening elsewhere in our state. It won’t solve the problems we have here in Delaware County, but it is the right step toward protecting other communities like ours. After the vote, I joined my fellow Representatives for a rally with PASNAP, the Professional Association of Staff Nurses & Allied Professionals.

Another Win for Maternal Health
|
I’m also happy to share that this week the state House passed new legislation that would require insurance plans to cover home-use blood pressure monitors for people who are pregnant.
High blood pressure can cause major health issues during pregnancy, including preeclampsia, preterm delivery, heart attacks, and more. High blood pressure disorders are a leading cause of maternal and fetal death.
By requiring insurance to cover home-use blood pressure monitors, we’re making it easier for pregnant people to keep track of their blood pressure and work with their health care providers to manage it, should it rise too high.

Last Saturday my district staffers Cintia and Carl attended the annual Delco Pride Parade in Media, where they helped carry the longest Pride flag in North America! The flag was raised over Delaware County in celebration the diversity of folks that live in our community and to send the message that we are an inclusive, welcoming home. Be sure to check out the Delco Pride Festival, which is happening TOMORROW, June 14, at 100 Garrett Road, Upper Darby starting at 1 p.m.

Upper Darby Community Policing Center
End of School Year Celebration
|
My district office staff recently attended the Upper Darby Community Policing Center’s End of School Year celebration. Headed by Lieutenant Laina Stevens, the Community Policing Center is a safe haven for teens that hosts trips and activities through the Upper Darby Police Department. The event featured community resources, food, and games. Thank you to everyone who attended, and to the Community Policing Center for hosting this event and so many vital programs for the youth of our community.

Yesterday, I had the honor of presenting a $600,000 ceremonial check to Cradles for Crayons alongside state Sen. Vincent Hughes. We met with their executive director Michal Smith, staff and interns, and then helped with their daily activities for a while. Cradles to Crayons collects essential children’s items through community drives and distributes them to local children in need. I’m proud to support such an important program right here in our own community.
