E-Blast: My Thoughts on the Closure of Crozer Health, Harrisburg Happenings, and Upcoming Events

Hello Neighbors, Community Members and Friends,

It’s with deep disappointment that I start this email with bad news for our District. As many of you already know, on Monday, Prospect Medical Holdings decided to move forward with the closure of Crozer Health System. For decades Crozer has met our community’s health care needs, provided necessary emergency services, and employed many Delaware County residents.  My colleagues and I are as devastated and furious as you are about these closures and about the road we’ve traveled to get here.

Prospect Medical Holding’s closure plans seem to change daily, but here is what we know so far:

  • Taylor Hospital is planned to close today, April 25
  • Crozer Hospital’s ER will close next Wednesday, April 30
  • Crozer Hospital will completely close on Friday, May 2

Taylor and Crozer emergency rooms are on diversion, which means if you walk up, you will be treated and released or treated and transferred to another hospital. No new patients will be admitted to either location.

Main Line Health, Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, and Riddle Hospital have planned for more ER staff and overflow capacity.

You can still call 911 for emergency services. There is a dedicated website for information and updates.

Prospect has established a call center for inquiries about the transition, including questions about patient transfer and care: (888) 801-2338. You can also email: CrozerPAInquiries@omniagnt.com.

We expect another bankruptcy hearing in Texas on April 30. You can read the Delaware County Legislative Delegation’s statement on the closings here.

on the Closure of Crozer Health System

Video

It is with profound sorrow, frustration, and outrage that we face the tragic closure of the Crozer Health System in Delaware County.

The dismantling of our healthcare infrastructure will have devastating, far-reaching consequences. The loss of inpatient and outpatient services, clinical care, mental health treatment, maternity and obstetric services, Level 1 trauma care, the burn unit, and emergency services leaves our community dangerously exposed and vulnerable. This closure is not just a loss of a hospital system, it is the erosion of a critical lifeline for countless families.

The economic impact is equally severe. Hundreds of dedicated healthcare workers now face unemployment. Small businesses that relied on Crozer’s staff and patients are also reeling from the ripple effects of this collapse. The community, already struggling with entrenched health inequities, is now left without a safety net, deepening the disparities we have fought so hard to address.

As we navigate this heartbreaking moment the unraveling of an essential health system at the hands of a for-profit entity, we must acknowledge the grief, fear, and anger that so many are feeling. Delaware County is becoming a healthcare desert, and the consequences are urgent and real.

Despite this tragedy, our office and the Delaware County Delegation stand ready to support our community through the next steps. We are committed to providing immediate resources and advocating for longer-term solutions:

  • Assistance with unemployment benefits for displaced healthcare workers
  • Coordination of mobile health units to provide urgent care access
  • Support with state insurance enrollment and healthcare navigation
  • Liaison services with county and state agencies, including the Department of Health and Department of Human Services
  • Referrals and assistance for accessing medical records
  • Notary services for essential documents
  • Community resource events to connect residents with support services

This is a moment for collective action and resilience. Our office will not be passive in the aftermath. We are here, and we are fighting to restore, rebuild, and reimagine healthcare access for all in Delaware County.
