E-Blast: Back in Harrisburg, Legislative Actions & more!

Hello Neighbors, Community Members and Friends,

It was a busy week back in Harrisburg! I was honored to pass some resolutions, voice my support to protect reproductive health, and welcome some local groups to the State Capitol!

On Monday, I started the day by attending a press conference on protecting reproductive rights! It is a sad reality where the rights of women can be taken away at a moment’s notice at the federal level. Make no mistake, my colleagues and I in the state House are doing everything we can so that a Woman's health will always be protected!

On Tuesday, I had some pieces of legislation make moves! First, H.B. 433, which would eliminate out-of-pocket costs for diagnostic breast imaging, passed out of the Health Committee with unanimous support! Additionally, H.R. 123, which would establish April as Sikh Heritage Month was approved by the State Government Committee.

Later in the day, I joined my fellow PA Black Maternal Health Caucus Co-Chair, state Rep. La'Tasha D. Mayes, on the floor of the House as her Black Midwives Day resolution passed the House!

Speaking of Black maternal health, we celebrate two important days today! First, today is Doula Day! Doulas provide guidance and support to expecting mothers and families. With the overwhelming health concerns for Black Mommas, Black Doulas can make a positive difference in the birthing experience. Earlier this week, I spoke in the PA House on the need to recognize this day!

Today is also the start of Black Maternal Health Week! We are so excited to celebrate this week of recognizing and continuing the fight for maternal health equity for Black Mommas everywhere! I also spoke in support of and passed this resolution this week, as well!

Thank you for subscribing to my informational weekly e-blasts. Read on to learn more about upcoming events! Please be sure to share the information with your neighbors and friends to stay informed and sign up for our weekly E-blast at pahouse.com/Curry/emailsignup

Bonner Prendie Football Team Visit

On Monday, I welcomed the Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast High School Football Team to celebrate their historic victory in the PIAA Class-4A State Football Championship! This remarkable achievement marks the first-ever state championship in Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast High School's history, and it is a testament to your dedication, teamwork, and relentless hard work.

Upper Darby Teen Advisory Board

On Tuesday, state Rep. Heather Boyd and I welcomed the Upper Darby Library's Teen Advisory Board. The program is wonderful for students needing volunteer hours for school and for those looking to help the community. Teen volunteers help with materials and programming prep, assist during programming in the children’s library, and help keep the Children’s Library looking nice. These students middle and high school students who dedicate themselves to making the Upper Darby Municipal Library a great place for teens and children, they do fun activities, raises funds for events, develops leadership skills, does community service, shares ideas about how to improve the library for all teens, and contributes in a positive way to both the library and Upper Darby community.

Take Advantage of Pa's Child and Dependent Care Enhancement Tax Credit

I’m reminding eligible residents to take advantage of Pennsylvania’s Child and Dependent Care Enhancement Tax Credit before the April 15, 2025, tax filing deadline. This credit, expanded under a law that I introduced, provides financial relief to working families with child or dependent care expenses.

The credit matches 100% of the federal Child Care Tax Credit, offering a maximum of $1,050 for one child/dependent and $2,100 for two or more, with minimums of $600 and $1,200, respectively. Eligibility includes expenses for children under 13, spouses, or other dependents who are physically or mentally incapable of self-care. The credit is refundable, meaning taxpayers can receive a full refund after tax obligations.

To claim the credit, taxpayers must file a PA-40 form along with PA Schedule DC, Federal Form 2441, and 1040 Schedule 3. The Department of Revenue encourages filing through myPATH, Pennsylvania’s free online tax filing system.

You can find more information about the tax credit here or contact my office.
