Dear Neighbor,
Transportation, specifically PennDOT, is one of the most common touchpoints between people and their state government. It is also one of the many reasons why I hope we will wrap up our state’s 2025-26 budget in the coming days (not weeks).
Below is an update about the High Street Bridge that carries vehicles over Sprogel’s Run in Lower Pottsgrove:
UPDATE
The detour (no left on Sunnybrook Road) will be removed the week of August 4, according to Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). Initial work is wrapping up on the eastern side of the bridge, which permits the termination of this inconvenient detour.
Thank you for your patience. I have repeatedly emphasized the importance of moving quickly on these repairs, since this is a vital connection between Pottstown Borough and neighboring townships. Ambulances rush people to the local hospital, while fire trucks need reliable access with minimal detours.
Crews will soon begin on the western side (pictured below). This bridge was constructed in 1910 and needs lots of work to ensure safety for travelers. At this time, it remains to be determined if a full replacement or rehabilitation will be selected. A design consultant was recently selected for the engineering agreement for this bridge project, and PennDOT anticipates they will be under contract to start work by the middle of August. Typically, a project of this nature requires approximately 2-3 years for design.

UPDATE #2
Meanwhile, work continues on the Keim Street bridge, which requires coordination between Montgomery County and PennDOT. Detailed updates can be found here. The anticipated opening date is three years from now, July 2028.
Elsewhere in PennDOT updates, motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:
Monday, July 28, through Friday, August 1, from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, a lane closure will be in place on westbound U.S. 422 between the Sanatoga (Evergreen Road) and Route 100 interchanges.
Monday, July 28, through Friday, August 1, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, a lane closure will be in place on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Route 100 and Sanatoga (Evergreen Road) interchanges.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
On the Move Seniors: We can help renew your SEPTA Senior Fare Card

|
|
You might have seen a Philadelphia Inquirer story this week about why SEPTA senior fare cards expire—SEPTA says the cards have a shelf life from the manufacturer. It might be a hassle, but the good news is we’re here to help. Give my office a call at 484-200-8265 and a member of my staff will assist you.
The senior fare cards allow those 65 and older to ride SEPTA routes free in PA, so make sure you get one or renew if you qualify!
