Pottstown High School teachers and students welcomed Gov. Josh Shapiro into their classrooms today to learn about historic investments in K-12 education

Alongside culinary staff and students, I was happy to join the governor in Pottstown today. The Shapiro administration has increased funding for CTE (career & technical education) and apprenticeships by more than 50 percent since taking office – a nearly $65 million increase. Now, more than 3,000 additional students are enrolled in career and technical education courses.

While much work remains for the General Assembly to fully implement the Fair Funding formula, the governor’s administration reports that because of additional funding to our public schools:
- 778 schools have been able to expand mental health services.
- We served more than 90 million breakfasts to Pennsylvania students last year.
- More than 3,000 additional students are enrolled in career and technical education courses.
- Consumer Affairs now ranks us as one of the top five states for quality public education in the country.
- For the first time ever, Pennsylvania is investing over $11 billion each year in K-12 public education – that includes a $2 billion increase during the Shapiro Administration.
We thank the governor, a former Montgomery County Commissioner, and his team for “picking Pottstown” and visiting our region today.

Memorial Day weekend: Honoring Fallen Heroes
|
|
|
This holiday weekend, we honor those soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen who sacrificed their lives in service of our country. Our veterans and their families are served by the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, which provides care and outreach to nearly 700,000 Pennsylvanians. Montgomery County also has its own Office of Veterans Services, which can assist with navigating hard-earned benefits. They can be reached at: teamveterans@montgomerycountypa.gov.
In observance of Memorial Day, my office will be closed Friday, May 23 through Monday, May 26. We will open again on Tuesday, May 27 at 8:30 a.m. Also, all Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) drivers license and photo centers will be closed Saturday, May 24 through Monday, May 26.
We hope you can join us in Pottstown for the annual Memorial Day Parade down High Street, beginning between 9:30 and 10 a.m. (from Bailey Street heading west).
