Cephas announces over $1.2 million in grants to enhance West Philadelphia community spaces

HARRISBURG, Sept. 15 – State Rep. Morgan Cephas, D-Phila., announced that two projects in the 192nd Legislative District have been awarded Local Share Account grants totaling more than $1.2 million.

The awards are as follows:

  • $907,000 to Cobbs Creek Foundation to purchase specialized equipment to maintain the 350-acre property.
  • $318,918 to Overbrook West Neighbors Inc. to construct the Overbrook Service Center.

“I am proud to announce these investments in important projects that will ensure our community has the resources it needs to thrive culturally and economically,” said Cephas. “In my district, restoring the historic Cobbs Creek Golf Course has been a longtime priority. This funding will allow staff to maintain safe, high-quality playing conditions year-round.

“Investment in the construction of the Overbrook Service Center will create a community space to provide programs and services to businesses and property owners in Overbrook and the surrounding neighborhoods of Philadelphia.”

The Local Share Account funding, which is derived from tax dollars generated at Pennsylvania’s casinos, was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The Commonwealth Financing Authority is an independent agency of the state Department of Community and Economic Development that administers Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus programs.
