Cephas releases statement on shooting near Overbrook High School

PHILADELPHIA, May 7 – State Rep. Morgan Cephas, D-Philadelphia, released the following statement on the shooting of a Philadelphia Police officer near Overbrook High School today.

“Today’s shooting of a Philadelphia Police officer near Overbrook High School is heartbreaking. My thoughts are with the injured officer and their family, as well as the students, staff, and families of the Overbrook school community.

“Our schools should be safe spaces — for learning, growth, and community — not trauma and violence. I’m grateful for the officers who put themselves in harm’s way to protect our young people, and I remain committed to working with law enforcement, school officials, and local and state leaders to build a safer, more supportive environment for our neighborhoods.

“This moment calls for urgency, unity, and accountability. I support our first responders and pray for justice and healing to all those affected.”

The 192^nd Legislative District comprises communities in West Philadelphia which are north and west of Market Street including Overbrook, Overbrook Park, Wynnefield, Carroll Park and more.
