Burns: $252K in grants awarded to career and technical education programs in Cambria County

HARRISBURG, June 3 — State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, today announced that three Cambria County schools have been awarded a total of $252,498 in state grants to help purchase new equipment for career and technical education programs.

The local schools receiving grants under the Competitive Equipment Grants program are:

  • Admiral Perry Area Vocational Technical School: $85,000 for HVAC, environmental, and thermal science learning systems.
  • Greater Johnstown Career and Technology Center: $85,000 for a collaborative robot arm.
  • Greater Johnstown School District: $82,498 for tire and welding equipment.

“These programs help prepare our students for in-demand jobs,” Burns said. “It’s important to me that every student has a pathway to a career that works best for them and fills the needs of our employers. I supported this funding in our state budget to make sure every student in Cambria County gets that opportunity.”

Under the Competitive Equipment Grants program, school districts and career and technology centers can receive grants of up to $85,000 to update or purchase equipment used in the training of students in approved career and technical education programs. The equipment must be aligned with the needs of employers, and programming must provide students with hands-on use of the equipment as part of the curriculum.

The three schools in Cambria County were among 54 Pennsylvania schools awarded grants this week under the program overseen by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
