Seniors save 5% on car insurance with Seniors for Safe Driving class
Rep. Frank Burns September 22, 2025 | 9:14 AM
JOHNSTOWN, Sept. 22 — Always looking for ways to help local seniors, state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, is once again hosting a Seniors for Safe Driving class next month to help those 55 and older refresh their driving skills and save on car insurance.
The course, which is approved by the state Transportation Department, will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 15, at Hiram G. Andrews Center, 727 Goucher St.
“This is a popular event in our district, and I’m happy to host it again,” Burns said. “I know how important it is for seniors to feel safe behind the wheel and to save money on their insurance at the same time.”
Participating seniors will receive a 5% discount on their automobile insurance for three years, and all insurance companies in Pennsylvania must accept it. That discount is mandated by state law and makes the $17 class more attractive to many seniors.
The course will involve classroom instruction only with tips on regaining lost confidence, increasing awareness, and maintaining a positive driving attitude. There will be no on-the-road driving or in-class testing.
Interested participants must RSVP by calling either of Burns’ district offices at (814) 536-8400 or (814) 472-8021 and providing their driver’s license number. Space is limited.
