HARRISBURG, Feb. 3 -- State Rep. Frank Burns today announced that C&C Smith Lumber Co. has been awarded a $100,000 state grant from the Ag Innovation Grant Program.
The Summerhill lumber company will use the grant to implement a scan and crosscut system.
“Agriculture is one of our top industries,” said Burns, D-Cambria. “And, for that to continue, it’s important for the industry and related fields to adopt innovative technologies so they can evolve, carrying on their productivity, supporting jobs and the state’s economy. This grant program, which was created last year, is designed to help with that.”
The Ag Innovation Grant Program was created last year and is part of the 2024-25 state budget. Grants may be used for project planning and implementation, and for projects that use technologies that improve efficiency, generate energy while reducing nutrient waste and support crops that store carbon or replace non-renewable resources.
Agriculture is one of Pennsylvania’s top industries; more than 53,000 farms support over 600,000 jobs and contribute more than $132.5 billion annually.
