Rep. Frank Burns January 28, 2025 | 11:15 AM
HARRISBURG, Jan. 28 – Always seeking out state funding for the communities he represents, state Rep. Frank Burns today announced that three communities are benefitting from $350,000 in grants to help them upgrade local parks.
“Parks are public spaces where residents of all ages can connect, be active and enjoy the outdoors,” Burns said. “I’ve been working with Upper Yoder, East Conemaugh and Brownstown officials since last year to obtain funding for these community projects.”
The West Suburban Little League was awarded $200,000 to make field upgrades at their facility in Upper Yoder Township. Plans include installing turf and repairing the deteriorated chain link fence.
East Conemaugh Borough received $100,000 for phase II of its planned improvements at Veterans Memorial Park, including site lighting, ADA-accessible restroom and an extension of the paved walking path to the restroom.
Brownstown will use its $50,000 grant to turn a current vacant lot into a community park.
The funding comes from the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
