Burns: ‘Regular contact’ with Nanty Glo officials yields $75K grant
Representative gets borough funding for new plow/dump truck

EBENSBURG, April 15 – Chalking the success up to his frequent interaction with Nanty Glo Borough council members, state Rep. Frank Burns has fulfilled a pressing need by securing a $75,000 state grant to buy a new plow-dump truck.
Burns, D-Cambria, and Councilmember Diane Holby credit a free-flowing and attentive working relationship with creating the dynamic that identified and solved the borough’s problem.
“I have regular contact with Nanty Glo’s council members – including attending the borough’s Light-Up Night and Hot Chocolate with Santa events – so we’re easily able to discuss grant opportunities,” Burns said. “Most of my job takes place back home, not in Harrisburg, and this is a prime example.”
Holby, whose council service includes a stint as vice president, said Nanty Glo has needed a new truck for years, but because it didn’t have the money to purchase one, it was constantly saddled with fixing its old truck.

Enter Burns, who lost and then regained Nanty Glo Borough in successive legislative redistrictings.
“He used to be our rep. years ago, then got back (to us) the last time (through redistricting),” Holby said. “We were so excited about it because we knew how he worked before. He’s a well-informed person who cares about the area. Any time we call him, he’s there to answer your questions or help you. He’ll always reach out and do what he can.”
Holby added, “He’s come to a lot of our things … when he wasn’t our rep., I wished we had Frank Burns back. With Frank, you call him and he’s right there.”
