Burns: $55,650 grant upgrades Cambria County War Memorial seating

1st Summit Arena slated for significant improvement

EBENSBURG, March 1 – A 4,000-seat entertainment and recreation facility that also helps drive tourism is getting $55,650 to replace and upgrade seating amenities, as state Rep. Frank Burns announced a state grant for 1st Summit Arena at the Cambria County War Memorial.

Burns, D-Cambria, said the funds awarded through the state Department of Community and Economic Development will pay for seating improvements that include chair repairs, addition of cup holders and creation of a party pit suite.

“These upgrades will increase patrons’ comfort and improve their quality of experience during events,” Burns said. “The War Memorial was established to honor the legacy of Cambria countians who served our country, and I’m committed to ensuring its maximum potential as a top-notch destination venue is realized.”

Cambria County War Memorial Authority Chairman Chris Glessner said the state grant is a boost for the multi-purpose arena in Johnstown – which regularly hosts hockey and basketball games, and a variety of concerts each year.

“We are aways looking for opportunities to improve the arena and the experience for customers. We’re excited about the addition of these upgrades; we think it will enhance the experience of people attending events at the arena,” Glessner said.
