The Washington Post has reported that approximately 215,000 children have experienced gun violence on campus across 217 schools nationwide since the Columbine massacre in 1999.

Pew’s Philadelphia research initiative found that 26% of Philadelphia residents live in poverty, the highest percentage of the 10 most populous US cities. Nearly 200,000 residents live in “deep poverty” where one adult and two children survive on $10,000 annually.

According to a 2016 study by Avalere Health, PA nursing facility operational margins have dropped by nearly 30% between 2007 and 2014, from 3.2% to 2.3%. The operational margin for those facilities with 75% or higher Medicaid occupancy was only 1.2%.

A recent report from the PA Heath Care Cost Containment Council found that drug treatment initiatives, including increased access to naloxone, has slowed the rate of hospitalizations from heroin overdoses.  From 2016-2017, hospitalizations for heroin overdoses increased at 12.7%, compared to the last five years which saw an average increase of hospitalization of 24%.

According to the 2018 AARP Survey of Small Business Owners in PA, 86% agreed that the state should support a state retirement savings proposal. More than two-thirds say they are likely to participate in such a plan if it becomes available.
