NCSL has calculated that US public school teachers earn 77 cents for every $1 other college graduates receive. PA has the 11th highest average starting teacher salary at $44,144 with DC 1st ($51,539) and MT last ($30,036). The US average starting salary for teachers is $38,371.

According to the Penn State Research Institute, a majority of PA residents will be of color by 2055.  From 2010-2017, the Latino population increased from 5.7% to 7.3%. The Asian population from 2.8% to 3.5%.  African American population increased from 10.9% to 11.9%. Only the white population saw a decrease during that time period.

According to the Union of Concerned Scientists, 2.4 million of today’s homes in the US could be at risk for chronic flooding by 2100 due to rising sea levels. In PA, 434 of today’s homes are at risk of becoming chronically inundated by 2045, equating to a worth of $114.7 million.

PennDOT reports that approximately 867 million tons of truck freight were transported in and out of PA in 2011. This number is projected to increase to 1.5 billion tons by 2040.

US Census data ranks PA 7th nationally with the highest median age among residents.  PA residents’ median age is 41 years old, slightly higher than the US average of 38 years old. In 2017, almost one-third of residents were 55 and older.
